Sometimes industrial design isn’t about looks, but it rather about the need and human interaction.

The club required more boat storage space for the growing number of boats in the fleet. The design goal was to create a rack strong enough to support as many shells as possible, but to keep them within reach of an average rower. Other design considerations included:

  • Transport friendly: Racks securely bolt together and come apart in order to be moved to different locations

  • Accommodations for wheeled castors in the future if the racks are moved to a flat, stable surface (such as a concrete pad)

  • Convenience of keeping boats rigged with a through-rack design

  • Cost-effective: simple design means less manufacturing time. Lengths of steel required limits waste material
